He's a Hoot – How-To Fun and Festive Fall Candle Shelter Project




In celebration of Fall, I’m sharing a fun little fellow who dropped into my studio. He’s a bright and cheerful guest who is sure to add a bright glow to your seasonal festivities.  


Hoot the Owl Pattern 6" x 6"




Cut the design layer to size.








Grind the glass for a better fit. 


Cut the twisted cane to size. 




Tack the cut glass to the clear base with fusers glue.


 Full fuse using the guide provided below.

 


Slump the fused glass over a mold using the guide provided below.




Glue the fused glass to a candle shelter with E6000.





Place a candle inside, light it up and enjoy!

Technique tips:
Be sure to clean all your glass with water and dry it with a towel before assembling the project.

When assembling the project, use the smallest amount of glue possible. It’ll burn off without leaving any residue.

Fusing Guide
Segment 1: Ramp 300 F/hr to 1300 and hold 30 min.
Segment 2: Ramp 500F/hr to 1465 and hold 10 min.
Segment 3: Ramp 9999(AFAP*) to 960 and hold 40 min.
Segment 4: Cool to room temperature.
*As fast as possible

Slumping Guide
Segment 1: Ramp 300 F/hr to 1265 and hold 10 min.
Segment 2: Ramp 9999(AFAP*) to 960 and hold 40 min.
Segment 3: Cool to room temperature.
*As fast as possible

NOTE: Kilns fire differently. Test fire these guides in your kiln and then make adjustments as needed.
